Come to Cannes with us...

Ahhh the destination wedding…our absolute favourite. And this weekend we were lucky enough to be invited to a chic Cannes beach- party nuptials.

We departed a rainy England on Friday lunchtime and before we’d even blinked we had landed in a hazy sunny afternoon in the South of France. Although I have spent a lot of time in France and have even just got back from a beautiful summer holiday there…the Cote D’Azur serves up a twinkly enchantment like no other.

There’s something undeniably indulgent about Cannes. The light in is spectacular, the beaches sprinkled with powdery white sand the sea is crystal clear. The dreamy part of the destination wedding is…you’re all on holiday. So we really indulged in the part working, part holiday fun of the weekend. We explored the town and picked up some fabulous local recommendations for restaurants, beach hangs and bars, all of which I thought I would share with you.

Firstly, the wedding, we were invited to serve up a sweet spectacular at the pre wedding party on the Friday night. Hosted at the Palm Beach Club on the southern tip of Cannes, this decadent evening centred around an ‘under the sea’ theme with deep blue lighting from the ballroom leading out to the terrace, art deco fixtures, and elaborate shell adornments.

We served up fruit marshmallows- toasted to order, a centrepiece of delicate Bon Bon teacakes…and as the partying continued… small espresso cups of rich hot chocolate with a whip of toasted raspberry mallow fluff. The perfect sweet treats to accompany either the wild late night dancing by the stage or the cosy chats on the terrace.

Whilst the guests trickled off to celebrate the rest of the wedding weekend we were lucky enough to wake up with the whole of the town to explore…so off we popped...We started our Saturday as the locals do—slowly. With a stroll along The Croisette, Cannes' iconic palm-lined boulevard,  The Mediterranean sparkled on one side, and on the other, designer boutiques with their glossy window displays…

The weather was glorious, a balmy 24 degrees and whilst the locals were bringing out their jumpers, we skipped around in sandals and dresses.

We then took ourselves for a mooch around Marché Forville, a bustling market tucked away from the glamour of the main drag, I surrounded by a symphony of colours and scent. Fresh flowers, heirloom tomatoes, and plump figs piled high. There’s something so grounding about buying fruit in the open air, knowing that just hours ago, it was basking in the Provençal sun, We treated ourselves to some insanely sumptuous peaches.

For lunch we were recommended a small bistro tucked into a cobblestone alley for wood fired pizza, plump fries and crisp salad, Bobo, really delivered.

We followed lunch by a dip in the sea- Cannes beachfront clubs have loungers for hire at extorianate prices but, as it was late September, the free stretches of the beach were quiet, so we dived into sheer glistening water for one of the best swims I have ever had.

That evening we went in search of cocktails…and the best spot we found was Loka, a stylish Mexican hang out with super friendly staff, spicy margaritas and a selection fo tacos. We sat on the bustling street and soaked up the party atmosphere.

Sunday was a gentler affair- with a long indulgent meal at an old school institution, Astoux et Brun, with terraces overlooking the Suquet and the Place des Allées it serves decadent seafood platters and the freshest of fish…we ate oysters, moules and, my favourite, fish soup.

We then set off for a stroll around town and a boule of glace for dessert.

We couldn’t possibly leave Cannes with a visit to the works famous Carlton Hotel for a cocktail… the most expensive cocktail I have ever ordered it but worth it to soak up the old world glamour of this bar, it was sipped sllllooooowwlly, let me tell you. But hey, we’re only here once so why not depart feeling like a film star.

So, you also fancy achieving a starlet wedding set-up then why not have a peek at our marshmallow and teacake centrepieces, the show-stopping sweet treat for any wedding party.
