virtual bonfire night

virtual bonfire night

Bonfire Night has to be my favourite night of the year. I plan Bonfire Night like other people plan birthdays or Christmas. From mittens, lined boots, sparklers, toffee apples, flasks of spiced rum- to the exhilaration of fizzing firework displays. Kids are allowed to stay up late and grown ups can eat hot dogs for dinner.
I couldn’t love it more.

Autumn baking hacks

Autumn is the most sensual of seasons it makes me want to embrace flavours that pack a warmer punch and tastes that deliver comfort. It’s the time for slow cooking, for stewing and a slow bake. But it’s also the time of year when I want to go on long walks before it gets too cold or drink red in front of the fire. So, if you want to cheat your way to producing some lovely Autumnal treats without having to while away the whole day in the kitchen – here’s my top 3 cheats for seasonal deliciousness.

The new teacake

The new teacake

When I first fell in love with chocolate it was the shiny, glossy colour pops that did it. Those delicate shells that sparkle as though they’ve been polished, a small nibble and the liquid centre would seep out- a rich caramel or a sharp fruit. The sort of chocolate that’s meant to be admired then devoured. I wanted to mix that creativity and luxury into a teacake – whipping up a treat of soft sponge base, a fresh swirl of marshmallow, oozing soft centre and a delicate layer of hand painted chocolate.

Great Taste Awards

Great Taste Awards

I entered my Cannabis and Pink Grapefruit marshmallows. Because I know they taste great. But, let’s be honest, you’re a but unsure aren’t you? They sound weird. Like something you maybe fancy ‘trying’ but not ‘devouring’. And I needed a little bit of validation for my CBD marshmallows. I needed to be that pushy pageant mum for their sake.

Why i'm not scared of change

Why i'm not scared of change

The last few months have really made me re-think what I consider scary. I now casually say things like ‘I think I would be scared to go on a bus’ or ‘ I would just be a bit scared to go the toilet in a pub’. I have whole conversations with my family where the word ‘scared’ is just bandied around as an adjective. What I think I mean is ‘apprehensive’ or ‘nervous’ but I’m committed to the drama of scared. And I’m not sure that’s a good mind set to have.
