Because autumn is the most sensual of seasons it makes me want to embrace flavours that pack a warmer punch and tastes that deliver comfort. It’s the time for slow cooking, for stewing and a slow bake. But it’s also the time of year when I want to go on long walks before it gets too cold or for sitting in the pub all afternoon drinking red. So, if you want to cheat your way to producing some lovely Autumnal treats without having to while away the whole day in the kitchen – here’s my top 3 cheats for seasonal deliciousness.
A mug is just a mug, right? A vessel for hot drinks, we have mismatched ones, chipped one, maybe we have a favourite one. But, essentially, they’re all pretty much the same. Well, no. That’s not right at all. The mug you choose affects everything about your drink, how it tastes, how it feels, and the whole experience. So this year I wanted to find the perfect hot chocolate mug and WOAH did I stumble down a rabbit hole of pintrest, instagram design blog blurriness.
I was in the supermarket this week when a mum turned around to snap at her child: “Ryan, I’ve told you, summer’s over now”. And wow, it hurt. I realised she was right. Im in the supermarket, summer is definitely over and no amount of hanging out by the new pencil cases or crisp, unpeeled A4 pads is going to make me feel better about it. So, here you find me trying to eek out ways to keep the last days from slipping away.
We’ve been blown away by the response to our new cannabis spiked marshmallows- with even The Sunday Times tipping them as 'the ones to try'. A couple of months ago we were approached by one of our customers, Tim, who owns the Great British Vape Shop in Holborn. He's a fan of edible CBD, the oil he buys is a premium organic, full plant hemp and he wanted to know what it would taste like in gourmet confectionery.
As the evening draws in the Paris streets upturn you. Even in summer you’ll be seduced by the smaller, narrower alleys with the warm twinkly lights. It’s time to stop meandering and for your space to become smaller. As you came to Paris to enjoy yourself it’s about time we found those tantalising after dark spots to eat, drink and snog.
I may not have mentioned it (that’s not true- I’m always mentioning it) but I used to live in Paris. Paris is my favourite city in the world. I don’t live there now, which sometimes makes me a bit sad, but it does mean that when I visit I now get to act like a number one Paris tourist mega fan. You can’t do that when you live there, it is terribly unParisienne.
We still like America, right? Despite the Trump stuff. Actually, maybe because of the Trump stuff we need to send them a bit more love. So happy 4th of July Americans. Here’s my Englishy/ Frenchy twist on the All American S’more…because immigration is a good thing.
Phew! What a scorcher. We're looking for any excuse to get out of the kitchen this week and we've got just the recipe to do it. Yup, toasted marshmallow ice cream. All the very best of summer joys from smoky festival campfires to sun speckled beaches- churned into each indulgent lick. I use an ice cream maker to whip this up- but it is also pretty easy to make by hand, you just need a fork and some wrists that fancy a work out.
